Overview

Kahshe and Bass lakes is a Canadian lake association. The old community website was outdated and was hard to manage by the board members and the volunteers. The client approached Tilipman Digital to migrate the redesigned site to Webflow. While the site's design might appear simple, it is not only the front-end that needed care.

The client had a request to migrate from Wild Apricot, to a different membership solution, migrate their database, create automations, and add more custom solutions that are not available natively in Webflow. It was a challenge that we gladly accepted.

Project Goals and Objectives

The project was split up into bite sized pieces. This way we could focus on delivering on the goals through reaching smaller milestones:

  1. Webflow Development (Front-end)
  2. Memberstack Integration
  3. Onboarding flow development
  4. Automations
  5. Database Migration

Webflow Development

Webflow development included 25 static pages, 9 template pages, and utility pages. While that might sound like it's not a lot, Webflow alone would not be enough to get the job done. Most of the CMS based pages required a degree of custom code to be added due to the nature of the pages. Some sections were different than the others, some pages included tables, etc.

Mainly, there are a couple of features that are worthy of mentioning:

  • Calendar page shows the collection items that are coming up, and hiding those events that have passed automatically.
  • Search page has a field that shows how many items were found with the use of inputed keyword.
  • Navigation that relied heavily on custom CSS

Onboarding Flow & Memberstack

One of the most complex features of the website is the two multi-step onboarding forms containing logic. To tackle this challenge, we combined the following tools:

  1. Webflow's front-end
  2. Form handling by Formly
  3. Automations by Make
  4. Business logic by Memberstack

We set up the plans, gated the website's content, and routed the members on specific plans to the right onboarding pages all in Memberstack. Then, Formly helped us take the user through the steps in order to get from the point where the user paid for a membership to the point where the user becomes an onboarded member. The form handling was taken care of by a make, sending the data from Webflow form submission to Memberstack's database.

Webflow Automations

In terms of automations and integrations, there were 9 automations developed using Make (ex Integromat) that featured integrations with tools such as:

  • Memberstack
  • Mailgun
  • Google Drive
  • Google Spreadsheets
  • Gmail

The automations tackled a variety of functionalities. To mention a few, we tackled:

  1. Taking data from onboarding forms to Memberstack
  2. Handling Photo Contest form submissions, taking the data and sending it to Google spreadhseets and Google Drive
  3. Adding Vendors onto the site
  4. Submitting and publishing vendor reviews (the automation portrayed in the screenshot)
  5. Adding people to the mailing list

With automations being completed, the project is not completed, but simply taken into V2. That is where some functionalities are to be polished, new features are to be added, and the community of Kahshe and Bass Lakes are to be taken to new heights.
